This is a commission piece that I just finished of Allison Mackay, the great great granddaughter of Malcom Mackay. Malcom was a friend of CM Russell and likely had the largest private collection of his work. These works now reside in the Mackay Collection in the state historical society in Helena, MT.
In this painting, Allison is working cattle. She is on the Lazy E.L. Ranch. This ranch was homesteaded by Malcom.
Her dad, Charlie, is a friend of mine and said this about her: If it was up to Monkey (his nickname for her), she’d ride all day, every day. She never complains about the heat, the cold, or being hungry. She just wants to keep going. That’s her favorite horse, Ol’ Peek - A- Boo.
